Human bone marrow stromal cells or mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are derived from bone marrow mononuclear cells. MSCs are isolated from a single donor. MSCs are one of the most investigated cells for therapeutic applications. These cells enable researchers to investigate stem cell properties, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering. In addition, they may be used for developmental studies. Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DT2) is a disorder characterized by high blood glucose that occurs because cells do not respond appropriately when insulin is present (insulin resistance). Studies have shown that there is a strong inheritable genetic connection. If your family members have DT2 this increases your risk for developing it. Severe complications can result from improperly managed DT2 including renal failure, erectile dysfunction, blindness, and coronary artery disease.
