Cytochrome P450 2E1 belongs to the cytochrome P450 family of monooxygenases. Cytochrome P450 2E1 metabolizes many substrates including drugs, solvents such as benzene and ethylene glycol and precarcinogens. Cytochrome P450 2E1 localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and is induced by ethanol, isoniazid, the diabetic state and starvation.
