Mitofusin 2 (MFN2) is an important transmembrane GTPase required for mitochondrial fusion. MFN2 has a role in the regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. The protein is highly expressed in heart and skeletal muscle and ubiquitously expressed at low levels. At least 2 isoforms of MFN2 are produced by alternative splicing.
